FFL transfer, plain language.
Every firearm we build is serialized and shipped through the federally licensed dealer network — the same process used industry-wide. Nothing about buying from a small shop changes this.
- 01We serialize and ship your completed firearm to a licensed FFL dealer of your choosing, near you.
- 02It arrives at your local FFL. They'll contact you to schedule pickup once it's logged in.
- 03Standard background check. Your FFL runs the same NICS background check used at any retail purchase.
- 04Paperwork & pickup. You complete the required federal form (4473) in person and take the firearm home.
Don't have a preferred FFL? Tell us your ZIP code in the build inquiry and we'll suggest dealers who work with custom shops regularly. Standard FFL transfer fees are set by your local dealer, not by us.

State restrictions.
Some states restrict magazine capacity, specific features, or require additional paperwork beyond the standard FFL transfer. This is general information, not legal advice — contact us before ordering if you live in one of the states below so we can confirm your build is compliant.
California
California restricts magazine capacity to 10 rounds and maintains a Roster of handguns certified for sale. Many custom/one-off builds are not eligible for private-party sale to CA residents through standard retail channels. Contact us before ordering — we'll walk through what's possible.
New York
New York restricts certain semi-automatic features under the SAFE Act and caps magazine capacity at 10 rounds. Some rifle configurations require modification to be compliant. Contact us before ordering to confirm your build's configuration.
New Jersey
New Jersey restricts magazine capacity to 10 rounds and regulates certain semi-automatic rifle features. Contact us before ordering so we can confirm the build meets state requirements.
Massachusetts
Massachusetts enforces its own assault weapons law and a compliance roster separate from federal requirements. Contact us before ordering — some configurations require review against the state's Handgun Roster or AWR list.
Washington
Washington restricts magazine capacity to 10 rounds and requires a permit for certain semi-automatic rifle purchases. Contact us before ordering to confirm current requirements for your build.
Illinois
Illinois restricts certain semi-automatic rifle and magazine configurations under state law, and requires a valid FOID card for all firearm purchases. Contact us before ordering to confirm eligibility.
Connecticut
Connecticut restricts magazine capacity to 10 rounds and regulates certain semi-automatic rifle features under its assault weapons ban. Contact us before ordering to confirm your build's configuration is compliant.
This list is not exhaustive and laws change. If your state isn't listed, standard FFL transfer rules still apply — when in doubt, ask before you order.

Firearms, firearm parts and components, and related technical data described on this website are defense articles and/or technical data controlled for export under the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR, 22 CFR Parts 120–130) and, where applicable, the Export Administration Regulations (EAR).
Atlantic Armory does not sell, ship, transfer, disclose, or otherwise export any firearm, firearm part, technical data, or defense service to any person who is not a U.S. citizen or lawful permanent resident located within the United States, or to any destination outside the United States, without the required U.S. Government authorization. No international sales, shipment, or technical data transfer of any kind is offered or permitted through this site.
By submitting a build inquiry, you represent that you are a U.S. person as defined under ITAR (22 CFR § 120.15) and that the firearm will not be exported, re-exported, or transferred to any foreign person or foreign destination without prior authorization from the U.S. Department of State, Directorate of Defense Trade Controls, or other applicable authority.
Questions about export eligibility should be directed to us in writing before a build inquiry is submitted.
Age requirements.
Federal law requires purchasers of handguns to be at least 21 years of age. Purchasers of long guns (AR-15 and AR-10 platforms) must be at least 18 years of age. These are federal minimums — your state or local jurisdiction may set a higher age requirement.
All purchasers must be legally eligible to receive and possess a firearm under federal law (18 U.S.C. § 922(g)) and applicable state law. Eligibility is verified by your receiving FFL dealer via NICS background check at the time of transfer, not by us at the time of order.
